Last Updated: 30 October 2026 • Effective Date: 30 October 2026

At Jack High Bowls, your privacy and trust are paramount. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how it is used, and the steps we take to protect your data when you read our guides, test recommendations, or reach out to us.

1. Who We Are

Jack High Bowls is an independent coaching, equipment review, and instructional resource dedicated to lawn, indoor, and crown green bowls, founded and operated by competitive player and coach Reece Williams.

2. Our Static Site Architecture (Privacy by Design)

Jack High Bowls is built as a fast, privacy-focused static website hosted via GitHub Pages. We believe in keeping our data footprint as small as possible:

  • No User Accounts: We do not require visitors to register, create accounts, or log into our website. We do not maintain any user database or passwords.
  • No Public Comments: We do not host public on-site comment sections or third-party comment widgets (such as Gravatar or Disqus).
  • No User Media Uploads: Visitors cannot upload images, files, or media containing metadata (such as EXIF GPS location data) to our servers.
  • No Paywalls or Stored Financial Data: All guides, tutorials, and articles on our site are freely accessible. We do not collect, view, or store credit card details or financial account numbers.

3. Information We Collect and How We Use It

We only collect personal information when you voluntarily choose to interact with us, or through aggregated, pseudonymous usage metrics.

3.1 Contact Form & Direct Inquiries

When you reach out using our Contact Me form or email us directly, we collect the details you provide, including:

  • Your name
  • Your email address
  • Your message text and any questions, suggestions, or feedback provided

How it is processed: Contact form submissions are transmitted securely through Formspree (Formspree, Inc.), a form processing service that relays your message directly to our inbox (reece@jackhighbowls.com). Formspree acts solely as a data processor on our behalf.

Purpose & Legal Basis: We use this information solely to respond to your inquiry and communicate with you. The legal basis under UK/EU GDPR is our legitimate interest in providing reader support and answering bowling questions. We never add your contact inquiry email to marketing lists without explicit permission.

3.2 Newsletter Subscriptions & Downloadable Playbooks

If you choose to subscribe to our newsletter or request our downloadable materials (such as the Weight Control Playbook), you voluntarily submit:

  • Your email address
  • Your first name (optional)

How it is processed: Our email list and newsletters are managed through Mailchimp (The Rocket Science Group LLC / Intuit). Mailchimp securely stores subscriber information and tracks standard email delivery metrics (e.g. open rates and link clicks) to help us ensure our emails remain relevant and engaging.

Purpose & Consent: We use your email to deliver the requested playbook and send periodic bowling tips, gear reviews, and instructional updates. The legal basis is your unambiguous consent. You can withdraw your consent at any time by clicking the "Unsubscribe" link in the footer of any email we send.

3.3 Anonymous Usage Analytics

We use Google Analytics (Google LLC) to understand how visitors engage with our site so we can continuously improve our guides and user experience. Google Analytics collects pseudonymous data such as:

  • Pages viewed and time spent on each page
  • Referring website, search terms, or social channels
  • Browser type, operating system, and screen resolution
  • Approximate geographic region (country or city level, with IP anonymisation enabled)

This data is aggregated and does not personally identify you. You can prevent Google Analytics from collecting data on your visits by installing the official Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

3.4 Affiliate Links & Merchant Referrals

Jack High Bowls participates in affiliate advertising programs (including the Amazon Associates program and the eBay Partner Network) to fund hands-on equipment testing, photography, and site maintenance.

When you click an outbound link marked as an affiliate or sponsored link (which we explicitly tag with rel="sponsored nofollow"), you will be directed to the third-party merchant's platform (e.g. Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.com, or eBay). That merchant may set a temporary tracking cookie on your device to attribute any qualifying purchase. We receive no personal or financial details from your purchase.

For full details on our commercial integrity and testing independence, please read our Commercial Independence & Affiliate Disclosure.

4. Cookies and How We Use Them

Cookies are small text files stored on your computer or device when you browse websites. Because Jack High Bowls is a static website without user logins, we keep cookie usage to an absolute minimum:

Category Provider Purpose
Performance & Analytics Google Analytics (_ga, _ga_*) Measures anonymous website visitor traffic, page dwell times, and navigation patterns.
Merchant Referrals Third-Party Retailers (e.g. Amazon, eBay) Set strictly after you click an outbound affiliate link to identify that you were referred by our site.
Site Preferences Local Browser Storage Temporary session state (such as remembering whether you have closed a modal dialogue).

Managing Cookies: You can choose to accept or decline cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually modify your settings to decline cookies or alert you when a cookie is placed. For guidance, consult your browser's help menu (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge).

5. Embedded Content From Other Websites

Articles on this site may occasionally include embedded content (such as instructional bowling videos hosted on YouTube). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same manner as if the visitor visited the other website directly.

These external platforms may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, particularly if you have an account and are logged into that third-party service (such as your Google account).

6. Who We Share Your Data With

We do not sell, rent, trade, or monetize your personal information to third-party data brokers or marketing agencies.

We only share data with service providers that perform essential operations for Jack High Bowls:

  • GitHub Pages: Website hosting and infrastructure delivery.
  • Formspree: Secure transmission of contact form submissions to our email inbox.
  • Mailchimp: Secure distribution of our newsletter and playbook emails.
  • Google Analytics: Aggregated web analytics and performance measurement.

All external service providers maintain their own rigorous security standards and privacy policies governing data handling.

7. Data Retention & Security

  • Contact Inquiries: Inquiries sent via our contact form or direct email are retained only as long as necessary to resolve your request and maintain reasonable correspondence records.
  • Newsletter Data: Your email address remains in our secure Mailchimp audience list until you unsubscribe or request that we delete your record.
  • Analytics Data: Aggregated analytical records in Google Analytics are retained according to standard retention schedules and automatically deleted when the retention window expires.

We employ SSL/TLS encryption across our entire site (enforced via HTTPS) to ensure that all data transmitted between your browser and our server remains encrypted in transit.

8. Your Data Protection Rights (UK & EU GDPR)

Under the UK Data Protection Act 2018, the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), and the EU GDPR, you have the following statutory rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right of Access: You can request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
  • Right to Rectification: You can ask us to correct incomplete or inaccurate data.

  • Right to Restrict or Object to Processing: You have the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests.
  • Right to Data Portability: You can request transfer of your data to another organization.
  • Right to Withdraw Consent: Where processing is based on consent (such as our newsletter), you can withdraw consent at any time.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact Reece Williams directly at reece@jackhighbowls.com. We will respond promptly within 30 days without charge.

9. Children’s Privacy

Jack High Bowls is an educational and sporting advice website for bowlers of all ages. We do not intentionally collect, solicit, or maintain personal information from children under the age of 16 (or under 13 in jurisdictions outside the UK/EU). If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately so we can promptly delete it.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may periodically update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our site features, third-party services, or applicable legal standards. When modifications are made, the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page will be revised. We encourage readers to review this page occasionally.
